Trauma Recovery

My Trauma Recovery service is ideal for you if you have had a traumatic antenatal, birth or postnatal experience and are still negatively affected by it.

Some people who experience trauma will go on to receive a formal diagnosis of Post-Traumatic Stress. However, for many, this may remain undiagnosed and you can be left feeling overwhelmed by your feelings and having some very unpleasant side effects that may never subside. This is where the 3-Step Rewind Process can help you.

Read on to find out more about the process and what it involves, or alternatively, start your trauma recovery now by contacting me to enquire.

“Clair is nothing short of amazing. It can be a daunting prospect welcoming a stranger into your home and to tell them your deepest thoughts and feelings about the birth of your baby, but as soon as I had my first contact with Clair I knew I had nothing to worry about. My experience doing the 3 Step Rewind with Clair was honestly life changing and I can now look back at the birth of my baby without the negative feelings I was experiencing. The trauma will never go away but I am at peace with it and that’s all thanks to Clair.”

What is Trauma?

The term trauma is used to describe a reaction to a particularly terrible or life-threatening event. You are likely here because you are experiencing some or all of these symptoms:

Reliving your experience through flashbacks or nightmares

Avoiding the subject by not talking or thinking about it, avoiding particular experiences that may trigger the emotions or even avoiding the event recurring, such as putting off having more children

Hyper-arousal in certain situations that may trigger you, through your senses or emotions

Negative or extreme moods which may include excessive worrying, a feeling of overwhelm, angry outbursts, anxiety, panic attacks, low self-esteem or other unwanted reactions and feelings

It is important to know that this list is by no means exhaustive and is not diagnostic. You may also have other symptoms not mentioned.

Why Does Trauma Happen?

So why are you having this difficult response to what has happened?
The information below may help you to identify and understand the triggers from your personal experience.

Intrinsic Factors

You may have experienced extreme pain, with little or no pain relief

Maybe there was a sudden emergency such as your baby showing signs of distress

You or your baby could have had unexpected medical complications resulting in a need for medical intervention. Examples of this might be post-partum haemorrhage or your baby having to be transferred to the NICU (Neonatal Intensive Care Unit)

Psychological Factors

It could be that you had a genuine fear for your's, your baby's or your partner’s life

Perhaps the reality of your birth didn’t meet your expectations

You could have lost the moment of birth because of a medical emergency or the impact of medication

Interpersonal Factors

Lack of consent to procedures, resulting in unwanted medical interventions

Experiencing a lack of control or feeling like you have been ‘backed into a corner’

Having received poor or little communication and care during the labour, birth or postnatal period, thus leaving you feeling disconnected, scared and unaware of your choices, or even that you had a choice, or having decisions made for you without informed consent

3 Step Rewind

The 3 Step Rewind Process is 2 or 3 sessions, each session lasting around 1 hour.

During the process:

You will be invited to talk about your experience

You will identify how you have been affected

You will be guided into a deep state of relaxation where you will have an opportunity to replay your experience in a number of different ways

We will discuss how you would like to feel in the future

You will explore your opportunities for growth

You will re-imagine a new and positive future, free from the negative feelings and experiences that came before your traumatic event

The process is led by you and facilitated by me.  This is not a therapy.  This is a self-taught process that I guide you through.
